We are so lucky in Suffolk to have a wonderful choice of places to go. I recently spent a quiet afternoon in Walberswick and picked a perfect day to visit as it seemed there were only a few of us there!
Its been a year or two since my last trip and the reason for our afternoon in Walberswick was to go crabbing – one of Suffolk’s Top 50 things to do. My daughter was on a brief trip home from uni and I had an afternoon free, the sun was shining so it seemed like the perfect opportunity!
Crabbing in Walberswick
Its been 10+ years since we last went crabbing together. When we arrived in Walberswick we popped into the Parish Lantern shop in the village to pick up some crabbing supplies and got chatting to a friendly shopper who advised us to choose a net as his grandson always catches loads with his!
After taking his advice, we made our way to the bridge where we always used to go and were delighted to have it all to ourselves!
It was so quiet and peaceful, there was no one about. The water so calm and shimmering in the glowing warmth of the sun. Just perfect!
I had gone for the traditional crabbing line and was not amused when my daughter kept catching loads in her net. We had a real giggle. It was lovely to spend time together doing something that we used to do when we first moved to Suffolk years ago.
It just goes to show you are never too old to go crabbing! I would recommend it to anyone.
After we had finished crabbing, we carefully let the crabs back into the water and packed our things away before going for a stroll.
As the weather was beautiful we headed to the beach and some fresh sea air. It was really quiet and we enjoyed taking some photos, making the most of the magnificent blue sky.
The village is a short walk from the beach where you can have a drink or a snack and if you like walking, Suffolk Coasts and Heaths AONB Walberswick Explorer Guide is a great way to see all there is to see during your visit. If you want to download a copy of the guide click here
I had forgotten how much I love visiting Walberswick and will certainly not be leaving it so long before my next trip. Its great that Suffolk’s Top 50 included crabbing in Walberswick because we had so much fun trying it again. Who knows we may bring our net and bucket back with us on our next visit!
